Join artist Lizz Freeman for a hands-on workshop exploring fabric appliqué techniques using hand sewing. Over two hours, Lizz will share methods she's developed through years of textile-based art practice—including both a quick, intuitive approach and a slower, meditative technique. Both methods offer different possibilities for creative projects, mending, and personal expression.
Co-facilitated by Mary Woodall, who brings decades of sewing experience, this workshop welcomes all skill levels. We'll provide salvaged fabrics, thread, and all necessary sewing notions, though you're welcome to bring your own materials.
Come prepared with a word, phrase, or simple image you'd like to translate into fabric. We'll work together in the gallery space, creating room for both learning and conversation as we sew—a chance to connect with others while building skills and creative confidence.
Lizz's solo exhibition Semaphore is currently on view in the Community Room of The Parlour Gallery.
About Lizz Freeman
Lizz Freeman is a community-taught, multi-disciplinary artist whose practice encompasses textile arts, printmaking, and photography. Working from her 100-square-foot home studio in New Orleans, she creates textile-based works using salvaged fabrics, cyanotype processes, and natural dyes from plants she's cultivated for nearly a decade. Her commitment to secondhand materials reflects both environmental consciousness and a connection to personal history. Freeman's work has been exhibited across the United States and is held in private collections worldwide. Recent exhibitions include solo show Semaphore at The Parlour Gallery (2025) and group shows at The Joseph Gross Gallery in Tucson and Glassel Gallery in Baton Rouge.
